The Murphy report covers the period 1975 to 2004, and takes a representative sample of 46 cases out of a total of 172 named priests, and 11 unnamed priests, some or all of whom may be included in the 172 named priests. (1.8).
In total there are 26 Roman Catholic dioceses in Ireland. The Murphy report only examined a sample number of priests in one of them.
